I've been staring at my screen for several minutes. I feel led to write but I have no clue where to begin, or for that matter, where to end. Eric and I are back at the condo in Florida. The Lord has instructed him to help me get the place clean and in order. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? In fact, if you're reading this and you don't believe that the Holy Spirit is alive and active in the world, you probably should stop right here. I'm having a hard enough time formulating this for my brothers and sisters who acknowledge His presence. Many folks I know who don't believe in, or who have serious doubts as to the power and existence of the living God, already think I'm a candidate for a straight jacket fitting. If you're in that camp, unless you wish to further validate that diagnosis, read no more.
Why would the Lord tell Eric to help me? I don't know. Neither does Eric. Could it be that Eric is delusional and loves scrubbing and carting heavy bag after heavy bag of trash to the dumpster that he fabricated this message from the Lord? Is he perhaps fulfilling a life long, never previously stated goal of assisting a physically-limited buddy in domestic drudgery? I don't think so... The air conditioning went out in the condo. What in the world does that have to do with anything? Maybe nothing. Maybe something.
This was the third time in the past year that my AC has gone out. 0-2 was reason enough to cut my former AC guy. Several months ago, I met a gentleman at a restaurant who just happens to do that type of work. I promised to call him if it were to happen again. So I did.
Almost as soon as Pablo arrived, the three of us began to talk about the Lord. And not insignificant small talk. Deep, meaningful, life-altering matters were discussed. And here's the amazing part: Divine appointments like that one are happening regularly! I don't want to say they're becoming common place because there isn't anything remotely ordinary about what's going on.
It's happening when we go out to eat. It's happening in barber shops. It's happening in grocery stores. They happened when we were on the road. They happen when we're together. They happen to us individually.
God has certainly put folks in my path before but it's different now. The appointments are much more frequent and much, much more intense. It strikes me that the spiritual landscape is changing. Society and the "world" are becoming darker and more polluted. But the Light of Christ is getting brighter.
I know we are not unique in experiencing this spiritual surge because we aren't the cause. And it isn't about being on the road because we aren't right now. It's the Lord. I think what we are seeing is the beginning of the latter rains spoken of by the prophet Joel. Brothers and sisters, our focus needs to be squarely on Kingdom business. Where your heart is, there your treasure will be.
